Linear Gap Displacement Transducer
Features
- Linear range up to 9mm
- Resolution between 0.1 μm and 1.0μm depending on Linear Range
- Non-contact position sensing
- Use with almost any target material
- Use with almost any target reflectivity
- Use in harsh environments
- Remote electronics via fiber-optic link
- Immunity to electric, RF, and magnetic fields
Principle of Operation
The LGDT measures the distance from the probe tip to a flat surface using a fiber-optic probe consisting of three concentric fiber rings. It illuminates the target surface, measures the reflected light, and derives a measurement of the distance to the target.
Typical Applications
- Fast-steering mirror displacement sensing
- Voice coil actuator closed-loop control
- Shaft levitation control in magnetic bearings
- Web position sensing in web processing
- Real-time concentricity measurements
- Bearing runout measurements
- Mechanical displacements under dynamic load
- Vibration measurements
- Structural deformation
