Optical Encoders

BEI PSSC optical encoders are available in a variety of configurations including shafted, hollow shaft, incremental, absolute single turn or multi-turn. These rugged, high resolution optical encoders incorporate direct read or reflective read technology for motion control applications. BEI PSSC optical encoders provide an output that relays information about rate, angle, speed, distance, and position for a wide array of military, space, and aviation applications.

The nanoSeries® absolute optical encoders incorporate the latest technology and decades of industry leading knowledge in space, military, and commercial encoder design. These bearingless kit encoders and our new housed encoder feature game changing tangential and radial alignment error reporting making precise mounting of the code disk and readhead fast and easy. BEI PSSC's nanoSeries® models include a self-calibration feature to assure accurate performance over time and under various mounting conditions. Repeatable radial disk mounting error is compensated for, and the auto-calibration feature can support full or partial revolution systems.

This next generation modular nanoSeries® absolute encoder offers high accuracy and 28 bit resolution in a bearingless design.  This encoder has been designed for environments that require resistance to radiation and vacuum, such as space.  This encoder consists of one readhead, a code disk/hub assembly, and a remote electronics PWB/Box.  Axial and radial alignment error reporting feature makes precise mounting of the code disk and readhead easy and fast.

INC35 & BIC35 Incremental EncodersINC35 & BIC35 Incremental Encoders
INC35 & BIC35 shaft position encoders are photo-optical devices utilizing long lasting solid-state illumination sources (Gallium Arsenide LED). INC35 is unidirectional incremental and while the BIC35 is bidirectional incremental. Resolutions up to 16,384 (14-bit) are available.

MicroSeries® Encoders are small, medium resolution absolute shaft encoders with a non-volatile output that have substantially better accuracy than other shaft angle digitizers. The encoder has an environmentally sealed case and 3-state outputs which can interface directly with a microprocessor.

The GCC40 is an optical multi-turn absolute shaft position encoder that utilizes solid-state illumination sources and photo-diode detectors. The encoder is radiation hardened, meets ballistic shock and is fully qualified for tanks and armored vehicles.

The MT40 is a robustly designed device that is impervious to most external non-destructive forces. The encoder has a single light source per code disk which allows for high reliability. The MT40 has 13 different design parameters from which to select to create the configuration of choice.

The Vehicle Motion Sensor VMS is a robust incremental encoder that is compatible with M119A2 aTALIN. It has 32-CPT forward and reverse, has a high mechanical operating speed, is qualified for tactical environments and is light weight and highly reliable.

Reflective Read Encoder R3ERobust Reflective Read Encoder (R3E)
The R3E provides a very robust method of measuring rotational rates in extreme environments. Field-proven, the R3E is capable of withstanding 15,000 g acceleration in the axial direction and 5000 g acceleration in the radial direction. The encoders can provide stable outputs at 20,000 RPM or more.
